Prominant Cases
Maria
Noto’s proven track record of success at
both the Federal and the State level includes the following
cases:
- Maria was one of the 21 defense attorneys featured in The
Boys From New Jersey: How the Mob Beat the Feds, by Robert
Rudolph. The Boys From New Jersey is the true story of
the longest criminal trial in the history of New Jersey,
U.S.
v. Accetturo, in which all 21 defendants were acquitted.
The government’s chief prosecuting attorney had never
before lost a case, but Maria’s representation helped
assure his first defeat.
- After winning acquittal in a criminal trial, Maria obtained
a huge monetary award including punitive damages for a client
who was negligently shot by a police officer in violation
of his civil rights stemming from false arrest, false imprisonment,
and malicious prosecution.
- Maria’s clients include those accused of Federal criminal
offenses and also State offenses such as murder, sexual assault,
drug offenses, robbery, conspiracy and many other crimes.
Maria routinely takes and wins the toughest cases.
- Maria’s diligent representation helped clear an Essex
County Corrections officer of conspiracy, hindering prosecution,
official misconduct and contempt, for allegedly hiding a
fugitive and former inmate who was hiding in her apartment.
- After deliberating only one hour, a jury cleared Maria’s
client, a Newark Special Police Officer, of charges including
manslaughter and tampering with evidence.
- Maria helped win an acquittal for a man accused of murder,
robbery and weapons charges in connection with the early-morning
shooting of a Newark cab company owner.
- A jury deliberated only 2 minutes before acquitting Maria’s
client accused of sexual contact with a teenage boy.
- Maria represented three defendants accused of resisting arrest
and aggravated assault on four police officers after an altercation
at a wedding. All three were acquitted.
